Collaborate to Accelerate

Our approach of “coopetition” brings together banks, microfinance organizations, fintechs, telcos and the government to agree on a shared digitization vision, to lead the design and launch of a national digitization scheme, and to enable entities to collaborate to develop the opportunity to compete on digitization and financial inclusion.

To do so, we’re building a world where banks and non-banks come together to encourage the use of digital financial services at a national level. Actors collaboratively create a shared set of rules, a common brand, and develop the necessary technology to create the fundamental framework for national digitization. Enabled by a government-led regulatory framework, actors pool existing assets and develop systems that work in the interests of both the industry and the consumer. No one participant controls all the assets; instead, everyone is invested in developing, using, and owning a national digitization scheme. All this to enable competition and innovation for digitization and financial inclusion.

We support our clients in setting the stage to collaborate, recognizing the value of collaboration, guiding national initiatives, designing and launching national payments services, and scaling the use of a national digital payments schemes. Beyond this, we work with partners to identify key strategic positions to differentiate and benefit in these environments.

Case Study

  • Bower & Partners worked with Scotiabank Peru to design a solution to digitize supply-chain payments for Backus, the country's biggest beer distributor, a subsidiary of AB InBev. By removing cash in the delivery of goods at thousands of locations nationwide, Backus significantly reduced their cash management costs and increased security and livelihoods for shopkeepers. This became the nation's first  implementation of mobile money and the foundation for the design of the national payments scheme known as Modelo Peru.

FOR GOVERNMENTS

Good governments see digitization as the path to economic growth and empowerment. We support governments in improving their payment streams, moving away from cash and towards a greater use of digital services for financial inclusion. We help in preparing regulations for collaboration, convening ecosystem partners and guiding digitization initiatives as part of a cohesive national approach to reducing cash.
